Choosing a KNX server.
What does a KNX server actually do?
It sits on the KNX bus and turns the installation into a system: it runs the visualization, executes logic and schedules, logs data, and acts as the gateway towards Modbus, BACnet and IP devices that KNX cannot reach on its own.
X1 Plus or V100 — which one should I specify?
X1 Plus is a 4-module DIN rail server for complex integrations, multiple subsystems and data-intensive projects. V100 is a 10.1" on-wall unit that is server and touch interface in one, aimed at residential projects that want a single high-end control point. Both run the same software.
Are there limits on group addresses or users?
No. The licence imposes no limit on KNX group addresses, users, app installations, scenarios, schedules or push notifications. See licensing and add-on modules.
Do I have to buy a licence separately?
No. Every Ilevia server ships pre-licensed and pre-configured — power it up and start programming. Cloud Extras and Access Control are optional modules that extend the system without changing the hardware.
How are the servers powered?
X1 Plus takes 12–36 VDC from an external supply, which keeps cabinet wiring flexible. V100 can be powered from the KNX bus auxiliary output, so a wall installation needs minimal extra wiring.
