Protocols and gateways

The standard protocols an Ilevia server speaks natively, and the physical interfaces they run on. No additional gateway hardware sits between the bus and the supervision.

How it connects

KNX TP

Native supervision of lighting, shutters and climate over the KNX bus — the backbone of every Ilevia project.

RS485 · Modbus

Photovoltaic systems, energy meters, wallboxes and heating systems, with the server acting as Modbus master or slave depending on the project.

Ethernet · IP

BACnet, MQTT, Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave, RTSP, SIP and the REST API all travel over the building network.

Frequently asked

Do I need a separate gateway for Modbus or BACnet?
No. The KNX, Modbus, BACnet and IP gateways are built into the server, so third-party systems connect without additional interface hardware in the cabinet.
Can the server act as a Modbus slave?
Yes — master or slave. The server adapts to the project, so it can either poll field devices or expose itself to a third-party BMS.
What is the REST API for?
For anything that has no standard protocol: a custom controller, a management system, a piece of plant with its own interface. Ask us what your case needs.

Not sure it covers your project?

Send us the device list and the subsystems. We will confirm what the server needs before you quote.
