Amazon and Google advanced voice control with Ilevia

Ilevia has been offering professional solutions for the control and supervision of KNX home and building automation systems since 2009. Since 2018, together with more than 40 protocols, the Ilevia system supports the voice assistance services of Amazon and Google that allow the control of the main functions of the KNX electrical system through voice commands given to compatible Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant devices. Ilevia solutions thus allow you to control lights, shutters, thermostats, sockets and scenarios with voice commands.

Imagining in a private home the presence of one of these KNX interfaces and as many smart speakers as there are rooms, if we give the command “turn off all lights” to any of these devices, the Amazon or Google cloud will send the interface KNX a command to switch off every single light in the house.

Let’s now assume the installation of the same KNX interface in a larger room, a hotel for example, with a large number of rooms, each of them equipped with its own private smart speaker. By giving the command “turn off all lights” to any of them, for the same reason, all the “light” devices of the system would be switched off without distinction, therefore all the lights in all the rooms of the structure. In these cases, the solution is to use a dedicated KNX interface for voice control for each room in order to be able to manage multiple accounts and thus ensure independent control of the electrical system of the individual rooms.

Choosing this solution, however, there are some technical and economic aspects that should not be underestimated: the cost of purchasing KNX interfaces for voice control (one interface for each room), the time and costs of installation, wiring and system configuration. Are we sure that this will not affect the client’s choice and the feasibility of the project? Premessa

Dal 2018, insieme a più di 40 protocolli e sistemi proprietari, il sistema Ilevia supporta i servizi di assistenza vocale di Amazon e Google che consentono il controllo delle principali funzioni dell’impianto elettrico KNX attraverso comandi vocali impartiti ai dispositivi compatibili Amazon Alexa e Google Assistant. Le soluzioni Ilevia consentono così di controllare anche con comandi vocali luci, tapparelle, termostati, prese comandate e scenari.

Impartendo il comando “spegni tutte le luci” a uno qualsiasi di essi, per lo stesso motivo, verrebbero indistintamente spenti tutti i dispositivi “luce” dell’impianto, quindi tutte le luci di tutte le camere della struttura. In questi casi, la soluzione è utilizzare un’interfaccia KNX per controllo vocale dedicata per ciascuna camera in modo tale da riuscire a gestire più account e garantire così il controllo indipendente dell’impianto elettrico delle singole camere.

Scegliendo questa soluzione ci sono però alcuni aspetti tecnici ed economici da non sottovalutare: la spesa per l’acquisto delle interfacce KNX per il controllo vocale (un’interfaccia per ciascuna camera), i tempi e i costi di installazione, cablaggio e configurazione del sistema. Siamo certi che questo non condizionerà la scelta del committente e la fattibilità del progetto?
